Scheibel Technology, a CLK Executive Decisions client has produced the state of the art vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) Camcopter UAV Systems. Based on extensive market research and experience with the original Camcopter 5.1, Schiebel then developed the next generation Camcopter S-100 Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System. In October of 2007, the Indian Navy was able to witness the S-100’s shipboard capabilities. And while the Camcopter S-100 has been used in land based service for more than 2 years the demonstration for the Indian Navy was the first chance Scheibel had to show off its truly impressive shipboard capabilities. During the demonstration the S-100 provided real-time video surveillance from an altitude of 12,000 feet while 25nm from the ship. Making the system even more impressive is its network-based concept which allows the aerial vehicles to be handed off between control stations both on land and at sea.
You can learn more about this and other unmanned systems at the following upcoming industry trade shows:

The military is going green. New hybrid vehicles will double as portable generators powering everything from targeting devices, on board sensors and mobile trauma units. The U.S. Marine Corps’s Shadow RST-V is the most sophisticated hybrid vehicle made thus far. It consumes just 200 kilograms of fuel during a month-long recon deployment which is 270 kg less then a Humvee would. It can go from zero to 97 km per hour in 12 seconds and it can travel 32 km on battery power alone allowing it to silently and nearly invisibly travel across enemy lines. The shadow achieves greater traction due to the placement of its motors. They are squeezed inside the hub of each wheel, eliminating the drive shafts. For stability the Shadow can extend its wheels sideways 20cm beyond the chassis yet for air travel its footprint can be reduced from 79 to 62 inches due to a two axis pneumatic suspension that allows the tires to be pulled in. Furthermore its ground clearance can be reduced to just .1m.
The Army is also currently testing their own versions of the hybrid-electric Humvee in the US working with International Military, Government LLS and Lockheed Martin.

Just like with about everything in life, certain items fit certain people. There are laptops and PDA’s built for those who spend their days in the boardroom and those whose jobs take them into the most severe situations Mother Nature can throw their way. If you fall into this second category, you need a laptop and/or PDA that is truly built to withstand even the most extreme of conditions. You won’t get a slick, little, lightweight streamlined model, but if you’re in the military or your job takes you into the middle of really hazardous environments then you’re not into slick little streamlined machines anyway. These are truly rugged laptops and PDA’s. Some are even built to military standards, such as MIL-STD-810F, which means they’ll withstand everything from extreme heat and humidity, to immersion and even the occasional explosion. To find these machines you can go to a company that sells them or go to a specialty company that will turn your lightweight model into one of these truly robust machines. And when shopping be prepared to pay for the durability, and be careful, as the word rugged in the products description doesn’t necessarily mean it’s truly robust. So, do your research and shop smart. For more information go to:
